Our group is purely a social gathering, to meet others in this area who knit, crochet, cross-stitch or do other needlecrafts and have fun! Friends are made, knowledge is shared, fun is had by all. We are not an organized club, do not have an official membership roster, or dues, or any pre-requisites to be involved with this group. There is no age restriction; we have people from teenage to retiree. You do not have to be at a certain level of skill to come and stitch; we welcome brand-newbies and long-timers alike. We don't care what needles you use, what projects you make, or what kind of yarn you use -- we are not snobs. (But if you bring some pretty yarn to show and tell with us at a meeting, please consider letting us admire it up close!)
While we have participated in charity projects in the past, any involvement in such works is up to the individual person, and not the group. If you do not have the time, finances, skill or interest in doing such a thing, that is your decision and nobody will think less of you for it! However, if you do have a charity you are working with, please feel free to tell us about it! There may be others in the group who might share your passion for such a cause.
In December of 2003, Misha started learning to crochet, and Britt started learning how to knit. By the summer of 2004, both were eager to find others locally who shared their passion for hand-crafted yarny goodness and sought to find them on the Internet, after unsuccessfully finding anyone through more "traditional" methods of printed media, flyers at craft stores, or word of mouth.
One fateful afternoon, Misha happened to stumble across a post Britt had made on a knitting forum's local groups thread (yes, a crocheter slumming the knitting boards!) and sent a message inquiring if she was still interested in forming a local group. A few email- and chat-sessions later, and the first meeting of this new group was planned for Tuesday evening in August, at a local restaurant. By that time, they had managed to find a third online knitter looking for real-life stitching companions, and others had learned of the newly-formed group by viewing notices in the local newspapers.
Since then, they have had potlucks, ornament exchanges and holiday parties, yarn & notion swaps, field trips to other yarn stores and visited with/had visits from other stitching groups in the area... all the while, sharing new tips, tricks and ideas with others in the group.
And the rest, to dust off that tired old cliché, is history!
